Gosper House

Gosper House was built in 1870 by Thomas Gosper near the junction of Comleroy Road and Upper Colo Road in Upper Colo, NSW. Present owners, Howard and Cheryl Smith, kindly showed this historic home to participants in the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of Upper Colo Church in April 2006.
Surrounded by broad shady verandahs with panoramic views, this old home was built from handmade bricks, the same as those used to build the Upper Colo Anglican Church on Comleroy Road. |

In 1888, Upper Colo's first mailman, Tom Caterson, had his depot in a room behind the kitchen in Gosper House. Then Mr and Mrs Jack Forgham bought Gosper House in 1921 and operated the Upper Colo Post Office there until 1970. Mrs Forgham also used to issue permits there for drovers to drive mobs of cattle along Comleroy Road towards the Riverstone Meatworks.
This back room of Gosper House was used as the Upper Colo Post Office for many years.
